How Can I Improve My Egg Quality in 30 Days? The Facts You Need to Know

How can I improve my egg quality in 30 days? Do you ask yourself this question as you're trying to get pregnant with PCOS?

I can see why you are looking to make changes so quickly. You’ve been working with a doctor who has told you weird things like, “in order to regulate your period, you need to go back on birth control”.

But I’m trying to get pregnant, why would I get back on birth control?

Exactly.

So to say the least, you just haven’t been getting the kind of healthcare that gets you results and honestly you’re left feeling even more stuck.

I’m glad you’re here because you are going to learn a lot about egg quality today and particularly if you can and how to improve your egg quality in thirty days, so let’s dive in.

What is PCOS?

Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) is one of the number one top causes of female infertility.

PCOS is defined as ovulation issues, too many androgen hormones (like testosterone) and cysts on the ovaries. You need two out of these three criteria to be diagnosed with PCOS.

What is Infertility?

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) defines infertility as not being able to get pregnant within one year of having unprotected sex. And for those who are over the age of 35, not getting pregnant after six months of trying.

What is Egg Quality?

Egg quality refers to how the eggs develop and mature as they get ready to ovulate. They do this by dividing chromosomes. Once the egg gets to 23 chromosomes then, pop! It's ready to ovulate and go make a baby. If that egg doesn't make 23 chromosomes? Then it either won't release from the ovary, it won't implant, or will have a higher chance of miscarriage.

Can I Improve My Egg Quality In 30 Days?

What You Need to Know First

When answering the question, "can I improve my egg quality in 30 days?", we first need to talk about what your eggs are doing in your body from when you were born.

Yup, we need to go that far back.

As a woman born with ovaries, you are born with all the eggs you will ever have. Your eggs just pretty much sit there in their relaxed state until puberty.

Once you go through puberty and get your period, then each month (or roughly a month, you could be one of those people who have longer cycles), then your eggs start “activating” in order to be able to be released from one of your ovaries during ovulation.

This “activation” or development of the egg in science-y talk is called folliculogenesis. Oh, and also, eggs are referred to as follicles in your body so you may see me use those two words interchangeably.

But overall, your eggs/follicles take about a year to fully develop.

Here’s a simple version of that timeline:

  • It takes about 290 days for an early egg to develop into a secondary follicle.

  • It then takes about 60 days for this early egg/follicle to develop through three important growth stages.

  • At this point your body chooses a dominant egg/follicle which then takes about twenty days to be ready for release from the ovary via ovulation.

Pretty exciting stuff, right?

Why Egg Development is Important When Asking Yourself "Can I Improve My Egg Quality in 30 Days?

The timeline that will give you the best outcome for improved egg quality is three months prior to ovulation because that’s when the egg is doing the most active dividing.

The more you can flood your body with specific nutrients needed for egg development in those three months leading up to ovulation, the better chance you have of having a high quality egg.

Which might leave you wondering, are we at the end of the information here? Does this mean I can't improve my egg quality in 30 days?

Nope! But stick with me here.

If you're asking yourself how can I improve my egg quality in 30 days, let's talk about some interesting research that has shown that this is possible.

How Can I Improve My Egg Quality in 30 Days? 2 Powerful Supplements That Will Help

Supplement #1: Melatonin

You may be familiar with using melatonin for sleep support. And yes, it does help improve sleep for many people. Melatonin has another important job. It is a powerful antioxidant. And those antioxidant properties are helpful for improving egg quality.

In a study done on women undergoing IVF, women were given melatonin during the IVF cycle.

That particular study found positive egg quality improvements after just two weeks of melatonin supplementation at 3mg per day. This study found that both fertilization rates and the number of good quality embryos increased with melatonin supplementation.

Supplement #2: NAC

N-acetyl cysteine (NAC) has also been positively studied to help improve egg quality. And not only improve egg quality within a short period of time, but also specifically with PCOS.

In one particular study, women with PCOS who had been struggling with infertility for more than 4 years took NAC along with clomid for just five days. Of the women in the study, 21% of them became pregnant while taking NAC along with clomid. Of those taking the placebo? Only 9% became pregnant.

The good news is, you don't have to take clomid along with NAC to get the egg quality boosting benefits. And particularly if you have PCOS.

Several studies have found that NAC positively helps with both ovulation and pregnancy rates. Although these studies have found that it may take longer than just thirty days to provide that egg quality help.

Summary: Can I Improve My Egg Quality in 30 Days?

Here's what you've learned today. First, the most powerful time to support egg quality is the 3 months leading up to ovulation.

The second thing you learned is that research does support that you can improve your egg quality in 30 days. The two nutrients that can help are melatonin and N-acetyl cysteine (NAC).

Don't let poor egg quality get in the way between you and your next pregnancy.
